OPPORTUNITY TO EARN a PhD in the Gulf from a well-known BRITISH UNIVERSITY without ever having to reside in the UK

Ahlia University in its ambition to transfer science & technology from Europe to the Gulf in general and to Bahrain in particular has taken further steps towards the establishment of academic collaboration with a leading research university in the U.K.

Ahlia University recently reached agreement with Brunel University to offer Brunel PhDs through the auspices of Ahlia University. In effect, doctoral candidates will be Brunel University students studying on the premises of Ahlia University. Commencing in September 2004, Ahlia University intends to establish the Brunel-extension PhD programme in the College of Mathematical Science and Information Technology. All successful applicants need to meet the admission requirements as established by Brunel University but administered by Ahlia University.

It is planned that each doctoral candidate will have two advisors: one from Ahlia and the other from Brunel. At the completion of doctoral thesis at Ahlia, the doctoral candidate will be required to undergo thesis defense on the campus of Brunel University in London. A successful defense will earn the candidate a PhD issued by Brunel University.

This academic initiative represents an educational milestone in inter-university cooperation as it is the first overseas extension programme ever undertaken by Brunel University with a foreign university and puts Ahlia University in the vanguard of private universities in the Middle East in general and the Arabian Gulf States in particular. Only after a careful quality audit by a team of Brunel scholars was Ahlia University permitted to establish this PhD extension programme.
